For instance, you are facing with the dilemma of accepting a job offer in another country which could mean that you need to decide whether or not you’d be willing to leave your home. If you ask it in this way: “Should I accept the job offer in another country or should I just stay in my home country?” The Book of Changes won’t yield you an answer. You must formulate the question like this “Should I accept the job offer in another country?” or, “Should I stay in my home country?” As you can see, if you formulate the question this way, the Book of Changes can ultimately guide you and provide an answer because it’s answerable by either a negative or a positive which is what the Yin and Yang doctrine is all about.

The Book of Changes answer to the properly formulated question aforementioned may warn you that at the moment, you lack the needed endurance or experience to undertake a specific path, and that it would be risky to embark on a particular course without first acquiring more experience or building strength. By illuminating the outcome of every foreseeable situation, the Book of Changes will guide a person to become mindful of the steps that one must take before doing anything or acting in a particular path. It will also guide a seeker on how to undertake and successful complete a specific endeavor so that even if there are difficulties or obstructions along the way, the action that one will take remains favorable.

The Book of Changes astonishingly accurate answers to people’s queries are not a mystery because the book is based on the principle of objectivity. Usually when a person is facing hardships and have no clue on what to do, they seek a trustworthy person or perhaps a trusted confidant to ask for advice; this could be a friend, mentor, parent, leader etc. People generally tend to do that because one’s subjectivity doesn’t allow a person to view a problem with a clear mind, and this is usually because our emotions are entangled with the problem which is why it obscures reality.

Whenever we explain a certain problem to a trustworthy confidant, usually two operative factors happen that makes a person arrive towards a possible solution; first, we must clearly explain the problem and provide elaborate details as well as the possible outcomes thereby further clarifying the conflict for ourselves. Second, that person will now consider the problem from another angle and can therefore provide perhaps a more objective opinion. The combination of the clear explanation and the objective opinion of your trustworthy confidant may help resolve the problem but keep in mind that even if we seek guidance or advice from others, the answer is already within us it’s just that most times we don’t have a clear mind to be able to ‘see’ it.

If you start to see the problem in a more objective way, you can then start to open up and accept external guidance that will help and lead you in finding the right answers or taking the right course.

The Book of Changes answers a seeker’s question in a similar manner. When a person learns how to externalize the problem in a form of question, the Book of Changes will make you better understand your situation, and you’ll be able to accept the logic behind Book of Changes’s answer. If you accept it, you can be guided accordingly. The gift of Book of Changes is that it helps people to view their circumstances with objectivity so that one can take the right action to achieve a desired outcome.

You can choose to consult the Book of Changes as a general book of wisdom or you can also use it to seek guidance through posing the appropriate question and answer system that is align with how the book is structured. In either case, you’ll learn from its images, and you’ll be guided by the principles and ethics which will further enrich your life and elevate you as a human being who can be of better service to your society.
